Net-Zero is my senior thesis project at Parsons School of Design.
I am working now to gain funding to travel to China and Japan pursue this project. My first step is immersion: to be in context, on the ground in small fishing villages gathering first-hand insights into the current infrastructure in place around ghost gear solutions, attitudes toward gear, recycling, habits and patterns of usage. While I have first hand expertise in the fishing industry as a former practicing lobster fisherman myself, I realize that the context is vastly different. I have already made inroads with some residents of an island off the coast of Tosashimizu, Japan where there is a large mackerel fishery. And I am currently working to gain access in some of the many fishing communities in Zhejiang province in China.
